New Fats, Oils and Grease ordinance coming this summer

WEWJA is developing a new Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) ordinance, set to be adopted into the Authority's Rules and Regulations in Summer 2026. WEWJA is currently finalizing the draft prior to adoption.

This new ordinance will coincide with improvements to WEWJA's existing FOG Control Program, which helps prevent grease and cooking oils from entering and damaging the sewer system. As part of these improvements, WEWJA representatives will begin conducting periodic on-site visits to restaurants and other commercial customers that use grease removal devices. These visits will include reviewing cleaning and maintenance records, along with a visual inspection of grease interceptors, to help ensure the system continues running smoothly for everyone.  In preparation, customers with grease removal devices should begin to organize their grease removal activities, including grease hauling receipts.
